Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Countsy ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. Countsy is operated by Codexia. Countsy is a countdown app: you create countdowns to upcoming events and show them in the app and in home screen and lock screen widgets. You do not need to create an account or give us your name, email address or phone number to use Countsy.
1. Your Countdowns Stay on Your Device
The countdowns you create — titles, dates, categories, reminders, colors, fonts and background photos — are stored on your device. They are only sent to our servers in two situations, both of which you start yourself:
- Cloud backup (Premium) — when you tap to back up, see section 3.
- Sharing an invite link — when you share a countdown with friends via an invite link, see section 4.
Reminders are scheduled as notifications on your device. Camera and photo-library access are used only so you can choose a background photo for a countdown or save an image; you can change these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.
2. Information We Process
When you first open Countsy, an anonymous account is created automatically. It is not linked to your name or email address. We process the following limited data:
- Anonymous user record — an anonymous user ID together with technical details needed to run the app: the time you registered and last opened the app, your time zone, the app's build number, and your plan (free, subscription or lifetime).
- Push notification token — a device token that lets us send push notifications to the app. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
- Subscription status — whether you have an active subscription or lifetime purchase and which plan. Purchases are processed by Apple; we never receive your payment card details.
- Usage analytics — anonymous events about how the app is used (for example, onboarding steps, screen views and whether the subscription screen was viewed), so we can understand what works and improve the app.
- Advertising data — in the free version, our ad provider processes device and ad-interaction data to show ads, as described in section 5.
3. Cloud Backup & Sign in with Apple
Cloud backup is a Premium feature and is entirely optional. To use it, you sign in with Apple inside the backup screen. Here is exactly what happens:
- Sign in with Apple gives the app an Apple user identifier, and — if you choose to share them — your email address (or Apple's private relay address) and name. These are kept on your device. The Apple user identifier is used as the key for your backup so you can find it again on another device.
- When you tap back up, a copy of your countdowns (titles, dates, categories, styling and settings such as dark mode) is saved to our cloud database. If a countdown uses a photo background, that photo and smaller versions of it are uploaded to our cloud storage so they can be restored.
- Your backup stays in the cloud until you delete it or ask us to delete it. You can delete your backup at any time from the backup screen — this removes the backup record and its uploaded photos.
4. Sharing a Countdown
You can share a countdown in two ways:
- As an image — the image is created on your device and handed to the share sheet you choose. Nothing is uploaded to us.
- As an invite link — when you send an invite link, a copy of that one countdown (its title, date and styling, plus its background photo if it has one) is uploaded so your friends can open the link and add the same countdown in Countsy. Anyone who receives the link can see that countdown and its photo. We keep simple counts of how often a shared countdown is shared and opened. Shared countdowns are set to expire 7 days after they were last shared and are then deleted automatically, together with their photos; only the anonymous monthly share and open totals are kept.
Please don't share countdowns that contain information or photos you would not want others to see.
5. Advertising & Tracking
The free version of Countsy shows ads. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which may collect device identifiers and information about your interaction with ads in order to show and measure them.
- On iPhone, Countsy asks for your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before the advertising identifier (IDFA) can be used for tracking. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", the identifier is not shared, and ads may be less relevant.
- You can change this choice at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Premium removes ads entirely.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Third-Party Services
Countsy uses the following services, which process limited data on our behalf under their own privacy policies:
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Realtime Database, Cloud Storage, Cloud Messaging, Analytics) — creates your anonymous account, stores your user record, your cloud backup and shared countdowns, delivers push notifications, and records anonymous usage analytics.
- Google AdMob — shows ads in the free version.
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and purchases using your anonymous user ID; it does not receive your name or payment card details.
- Apple — App Store purchases and billing, Sign in with Apple (only if you use cloud backup), and the App Tracking Transparency prompt.
7. Support Messages
If you email us — including from the app's contact option, which adds your anonymous user ID to the message so we can look up your plan — we process your email address and what you write so we can reply. Please do not include sensitive personal information in your messages.
8. Data Retention & Deletion
- Countdowns on your device — delete them in the app at any time; deleting the app removes them from your device.
- Cloud backup — delete it yourself from the backup screen at any time.
- Shared invite links — deleted automatically after they expire (see section 4).
- Anonymous user record — kept while you use the app. Countsy does not have an in-app account deletion button for this record, because no account is created with your personal details. If you would like it deleted, email us from the app's contact option (it includes your anonymous user ID) and we will delete it.
9. Security
Data sent between the app and our services is encrypted in transit. We use reasonable measures to protect the data we hold, but no method of storage or transmission is completely secure.
10. Children's Privacy
Countsy is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete your data, or to object to certain processing. Because Countsy does not collect your name or email to create an account, we may need your anonymous user ID (included automatically when you email us from the app) to find the data tied to your installation. Contact us using the details below to make a request.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
13. Contact
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, contact us at [email protected].
